I was talking to a friend today who has been with her boyfriend for four years. When I asked how he was doing, I was completely shocked to find out that they were in the process of breaking up.
When she told me this, I was terrified that she would break down in tears or be upset, and I immediately regretted asking.
But as it turned out, she was just fine.
She was actually more than fine.
In fact, she had a huge smile on her face.
“I’m just so ready for something new.”
By the end of the conversation, I was smiling too.
She knew that four years was a long time. She knew that most people stay together after a certain period of time because after they’ve been together for so long—they can work out anything. But she didn’t want to. And she was tired of pretending she did.
She told me that she knew deep inside a year or two ago that it just wasn’t right. But she didn’t have the strength to end it then. And now she finally did.
She was unhappy. So she was doing something about it.
I know that this (specifically) is about love.
And I know that we’re 20, and we’re young.
But if you’re reading this—it doesn’t matter how old you are.
It doesn’t matter what you related to when reading this.
It’s never too late to be happy.
